lyrics

I smell of roses these days and a ladder in some corner
keeps calling me to climb my way from out this orchard
Scope this tree that my body has been swinging under
and it’s a pretty one but my singing soul tends to wander

See how the light dappling upon my skin
and how my hand dapples back that light like they was dapping it
I can lead my heart away from your water but it still wishes
still wishes to be lapping it in

I know there’s other fruits I’ve eat them
got their seeds in my teeth
beneath my tongue at the bent part where my elbows sing
but maybe it ain’t fruit or flowers but bodies from which
the trees claim the ghosts that once walked in the flesh now drift

Now clothed instead in twig and bark and leaf
so sweet a language not of the tongue but heart unseen
of invisible seam and skin and sun and dark
for the two are threads weaving in and out the other’s arms

A flood came and all the creatures of the night
swallowed down their calling throwing branches to the sky
lifted them to the fingertips which birthed them right
or at least earthed their light
in the right tilt of the night
I swear you can taste all of me
even if only a part or simply
a piece thrown down
to the seeds of the morn
and find the stillness
waiting for me on every corner

For the greatest distance becomes traversed
when the greatest distance in the self occur
Always was a dancer only took me the first
thirteen years of my life to find the right curse of a song
And now do the stars
even remember me now
when all they are
is a memory
caught in the space’s heart
fighting for space
in the long long dark

I smell of roses these days and a ladder in some corner
keeps calling me to climb my way out of this orchard
scope this tree that my body has been swinging under
and it’s a pretty one but my singing soul tends to wander
See how the light dappling upon my skin
and how my hand dapples back that light like they was dapping it
I can lead my heart away from water but it still wishes still wishes
to be lapping it in
